A licensed speech-language pathologist employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care in the rehabilitation of the patient. The Adult Acute Care Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship is a 12-month position based on 37.5 hours per week. The Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow (CF) accepting this position will complete the Adult Acute Care Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship. The CF will complete a 12-month continuum of learning from orientation to advanced clinical responsibilities. The CF will complete core rotations with mentorship by experienced clinicians in each area of practice. - Core Rotations: Fellows will rotate through various acute care units such as neurology, cardiopulmonary, trauma, and medical/surgical units to gain diverse experience. - Patient experiences: including, but not limited to post-stroke aphasia, dysarthria, cognitive-linguistic disorder, dysphagia (VFSS, FEES), TBI, tracheostomy/ventilator dependence/noninvasive ventilatory support, postsurgical inpatient care - Interdisciplinary Rounds: Regular participation in rounds with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, residents, case managers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and nurses to facilitate integrated care planning. - Multi-disciplinary Clinics: Fellows will rotate through Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic and Huntingtons Disease Clinic. - Rounds: Attendance of grand rounds, neuro case conference, multi-disciplinary rounds with neurology and trauma. The clinical fellowship includes a curriculum designed to ensure learning outcomes are met. - Didactic learning with workshops, collaborative discussions, continuing education and journal clubs - Clinical competencies in each rotation - Regular mentor feedback and live patient assessments - Self-assessment/reflection The CF will complete ASHA requirements for Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory and complete the Certification for Clinical Competence. In addition, the CF will meet the competencies outlined by mentors in each rotation for meeting the needs of that specific patient population.
