About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of a Speech/Language Pathologist, assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with patients designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA will also serve as a receptionist and clerical support in outpatient therapy clinic settings.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist, provides direct patient care for speech language, voice fluency, and hearing to patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific factors and performs satisfactorily related to patient’s age infant through adult as noted on unit specific guidelines and competencies.
  • Documents patient progress towards meeting established treatment objectives.
  • Provides direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies.
  • Plans therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional and intellectual capabilities.
  • Communicates effectively with patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding the patient status, progress, and needs.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.
  • Participates in program development of the department.
  • Performs duties of receptionist and scheduler.
  • Greet patients and visitors and answer telephone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Assists with cleaning and organization of therapy clinic space.
  • Assists in monitoring and managing therapist and patient schedules, completed and missing documentation/therapy charges and supplies.
