About The Position

The speech language pathologist will conduct evaluations and provide direct services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex communication needs in a public day school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough assessments of speech and language skills utilizing standardized evaluations and informal assessments to establish eligibility for services and inform goals and service delivery
  • Utilizes data to develop attainable, strengths-based SMART goals for improving functional communication skills
  • Provides direct services utilizing research-based treatment methods to improve students' functional communication skills as outlined in the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Records data and reports progress at least as often as report cards are provided
  • Attends and participates in IEP meetings
  • Collaborates with other related service providers to conduct co-treatment sessions when deemed appropriate
  • Consults with classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to implement communication strategies throughout the school day
  • Develops augmentative/alternative communication strategies as necessary
  • Trains classroom staff and families on augmentative/alternative communication strategies
  • Participates in professional development that is specific to the field and meets requirements to maintain licensure
