About The Position

Stark County Educational Service Center Speech-Language Pathologist (Part and/or Full-Time) Supervisor: Speech Pathologist Supervisor/Executive Director of Student Services Summary/Objective: Facilitate the identification and remediation of communication disorders to help students achieve maximum benefit from the educational program and parental involvement

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Secure and maintain a valid Ohio Educator License as required by placement or assignment; Ohio Pupil Services Registration is considered
  • Ohio BCI and Federal Background check free of disqualifying infractions
  • Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training, including but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens, Crisis Intervention, Educator Ethics, etc.
  • Embody high ethical standards, integrity, and accept responsibility for decisions and conduct
  • Efficiently operate Google Applications including Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.
  • Adhere to the Stark County Educational Service Center (SCESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook, policies of the assigned district/worksite, and the to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Educators
  • Promote the proper use, care, and security of SCESC property and report misconduct, vandalism, equipment malfunctions, and other concerns
  • Advance the professional image of the SCESC and affiliate districts
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers and colleagues promoting a cohesive work environment
  • Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law
  • Maintain confidentiality of student related information

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children ages birth to 18 is preferred
  • Such alternatives or additions to the above as deemed appropriate by the ESC superintendent

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with ODE, MSP, districts, and ESC requirements and timelines in relation to evaluations, assessments, treatments, communications, and documentation in paper and electronic formats
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments to provide therapy to students requiring speech and language services
  • Shares responsibility with classroom teachers in the identification of instructional areas in which the student requires assistance
  • Develop appropriate goals and objectives based on student need for inclusion in the IEP
  • Attend IEP meetings for students with speech/language impairments
  • Prepares and provides sequential instruction in the development and maintenance of skills to meet the student’s unique educational needs as indicated in the following areas: phonology, articulation, fluency, voice, spoken language, written language, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics
  • Monitor the efficacy of interventions
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to make environmental adjustments and transfer students’ newly learned skills and/or intervention strategies for supported learning in the classroom
  • Provide information about techniques to help families assist the student with activities at home
  • Assist districts in MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Support) by providing education, training, screenings, classroom collaboration, consultations with community professionals, school personnel, students, families, and attending team meetings
  • Demonstrate knowledge of students’ background, experiences, developmental age, and educational grade level needs
  • Advocate for student’s speech/language therapy services
  • Efficiently and effectively manage therapy time/caseload schedule, prioritize work tasks to meet the frequency of IEP goals
  • Communicates and cooperates effectively, professionally, and respectfully with students, families, and school/community professionals
  • Contribute to team effort by integrating individual responsibility with other team member responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning, development, and implementation of grant programs upon request of, in consultation with appropriate county/district personnel
  • Attend and participate in designated Stark County Educational Service Center staff and department meetings by offering solutions and/or sharing skills from professional training or literature
  • Integrate current practice techniques and update performance based on continuous professional development through the reading of professional literature, keeping current with developments in technology, and attending meetings/conferences
