About The Position

This role is responsible for providing speech therapy services, which includes the evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders, swallowing disorders, and conducting video fluoroscopy swallowing studies. The Speech Language Pathologist also serves as a resource for staff regarding participants with communication, speech, and swallowing difficulties. Key aspects of the position involve assessing participants' swallowing, speech and language, and feeding dysfunction and their potential for restoration. The therapist is expected to perform evaluations and assessments within 48 hours of receiving an MD order, completing them either in written or electronic format. A crucial part of the role is determining patient and family needs related to cognition, swallowing, and speech and language function, and engaging with them to identify patient goals and expectations. The position requires developing a comprehensive care plan for each patient, planning and executing therapeutic interventions to restore function and enhance quality of life to the greatest extent possible. This includes planning individual therapy interventions, establishing priority treatment areas, and providing services to address impaired speech, language, and swallowing disorders. The treatment program may also focus on improving cognition, correcting disorders, and enhancing communication and speech ability. The therapist must establish suitable and achievable treatment goals with defined time frames, provide individual therapy as needed, and perform appropriate clinical tests and measurements to improve function. Preparing patients for treatment involves explaining the process and positioning them for comfort, safety, and optimal response. Accurate and complete documentation of all clinical services is essential, along with maintaining discipline-specific competencies and statistical records. The role also involves determining equipment and supply needs and managing budget resources to acquire them.

Requirements

  • Must hold a PA license in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Must hold a master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Must be certified through ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
  • Basic Life Support Certification within 30 days.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (Pennsylvania) - State of Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the patient for treatment by explaining the treatment process and positioning for comfort, safety, and optimal response.
  • Performs appropriate documentation in all areas of care.
  • Ensures completeness of documentation of all clinical services rendered to patients.
  • Satisfactorily completes and maintains all discipline specific competencies.
  • Maintains statistical records as required.
  • Determines equipment and supply needs and utilizes budget resources to obtain.
