About The Position

Speech Language Pathologists serve as an active member of the Child Guidance Team and provide direct services across the continuum of care from promotion, prevention, and intervention to families with children birth up to age 18. Child Guidance is a statewide program that promotes and supports healthy family relationships and child development. The Child Guidance Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in the Child Guidance Program provides clients with diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of speech and language. Services provided to clients include speech-language screenings, evaluations, treatment, and parent education, help with social communication, speech sounds (articulation) and fluency. Child Guidance SLPs provide consultation to other professionals within the health department and in the community. In addition, Child Guidance SLPs serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of speech and communication services. Services are provided for clients in a clinic-based setting which may include speech language screenings, evaluations, treatment, and parent consultation.

Requirements

  • Level I: Requirements at this level consist of completion of a Master’s degree in in speech pathology, including academic and practicum requirements for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and licensed by the State of Oklahoma.
  • Level II: Requirements at this level consist of completion of a Master’s degree in in speech pathology, including academic and practicum requirements for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and licensed by the State of Oklahoma.
  • Level III: Requirements at this level consist of completion of a Master’s degree in in speech pathology, including academic and practicum requirements for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and licensed by the State of Oklahoma plus two years of post-certification experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses communication disorders of speech and language.
  • Prepares treatment plans and makes recommendations for individual cases.
  • Conducts clinic-based group and individual speech and/or language treatment as appropriate.
  • Performs hearing screenings and make appropriate referrals.
  • Prepares and maintains progress reports, records, and evaluations on individual and group cases.
  • Maintains confidential records of services including progress notes and evaluation reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Confers with professional and/or community groups on topics regarding communication disorders.
  • Implements and develops prevention programs that are specific to speech/language/communication issues.
  • Participates as a member of a Child Guidance Team in a multidisciplinary team staffing to provide individual diagnosis and treatment.
  • Collaborates with other providers within school systems on behalf of clients.
