Location Outpatient Center in Lincoln Park - Clark Job Description General Summary: The Clinical Fellow (CF) position is a 12 month, contracted, training position in the field of speech-language pathology. During the course of the fellowship, the CF practices under the supervision and direction of a qualified American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) practitioner. Under this supervision, the CF will organize, perform and modify prescribed therapy programs based upon a thorough evaluation of each patient and best practice methods. The CF is required to adhere to all ASHA Clinical Fellowship guidelines and procedures. This position will be helping support our infant welfare society, located near Fullerton/Central Park West. English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

Requirements

  • Successful graduation from an accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current SLP temporary license in the State of Illinois.
  • Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association by having completed the BLS AED Heartsaver Course.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Speech Pathology (Required)
  • (BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

  • English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, evaluates each assigned patient in terms of current or potential problems which pertain to the employee’s discipline, meeting or exceeding established clinical pathways and protocols for best practice. Seeks guidance in this area as appropriate.
  • Under supervision, establishes age specific plan of care and functional goals based on evaluation results, and regularly incorporates other disciplines, patient/family, into treatment planning, documenting the patient/family/caregiver’s understanding of goals, explaining rationale and methods necessary to carry out treatments. Seeks guidance in this area as appropriate.
  • Under supervision, consistently re-evaluates effectiveness of ongoing therapy, instituting appropriate changes in care plan. Seeks guidance in this area as appropriate.
  • Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver and provides education to meet those needs.
  • Functions as an effective member of the health care team by collaborating appropriately with families, physicians, other rehabilitation staff, nurse case managers, and others within and outside the Lurie Children’s system.
  • Participates in assigned clinics, rounds, meetings, annual competencies, MYR and conferences.
  • Consistently follows all documentation protocol and format in a legible manner.
  • Actively participates in in-services, including planning educational activities for the team as assigned.
  • Upgrades own knowledge in pediatric care. Seeks mentorship in a timely manner, as appropriate.
  • Meets required departmental productivity standards.
  • Supports organizational change initiatives; adapting to a rapidly changing health care environment.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • Other job functions as assigned.
