About The Position

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing a broad range of clinical services to the patients of Moody Neuro. These services include assessment and treatment of neurologically based communication disorders including speech, language, cognitive, voice, fluency, and swallowing abilities. The SLP coordinates referral services as needed including audiology. The SLP consults with other professionals regarding the patients= communication, swallowing, or cognitive-linguistic abilities. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing written documentation and verbal communication regarding services in a timely, organized, and clear manner. The patients served may be adults with neurologically based communication disorders. The Speech-Language Pathologist upholds the mission, philosophy and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and patient data and information in the performance of assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of neuropathology and neurogenic communication disorders.
  • Ability to set up and follow an appropriate treatment plan to meet the needs of individual patients.
  • Ability to be flexible and work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of speech-language pathology assessment tools.
  • Ability to work independently in professional manner.
  • Ability to accept guidance from other members of staff regarding their own areas of expertise.
  • Capacity and interest for learning instrumental assessment methods for speech.
  • General knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge and adherence to ethical standards of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Ability to communicate diagnostic results, treatment plans, and recommendations through both written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to relate well to individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to generate creative therapy tasks addressing patient=s areas of deficit.
  • Demonstrate NCI abilities and knowledge by successfully passing course, maintain refresher courses as determined by NCI committee as well as implementing the knowledge with patients as needed.
  • Maintain CPR certification by successfully passing course and refresher courses as needed per policy.
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Certificate of Clinical Competence. Texas License in Speech-Language Pathology.

  • Prefer one year's experience with adults with brain injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Review file of patient to be assessed and coordinate any assessment procedures at other facilities.
  • Assess all aspects of communication including speech, language, pragmatics, voice, fluency, and cognition. Evaluate swallowing function.
  • Provide written summary of assessment procedures and results for placement in patient's permanent records.
  • Provide verbal feedback to patient, family, referral source, others involved in the care of the patient regarding results of the evaluation and recommendations.
  • Write treatment plan as appropriate.
  • Make recommendations for referrals to other agencies/providers and assist in arranging other services as needed.
  • Provide treatment for cognitive-communicative, speech and swallowing disorders in both individual and group format.
  • Maintain accurate records of each therapy session and monthly progress.
  • Communicate patient's progress to the team during weekly rounds and as needed through written and verbal exchanges.
  • Communicate results of patient=s progress during monthly IPP meetings with family, patient, payee source, and team.
  • Complete discharge paperwork and make appropriate referrals in accordance with Moody Neuro policy.
  • Have or attain current CEU requirements for supervision of students and clinical fellows
  • Participates in the overall training and/or supervision of students in speech therapy during their affiliations or SLP-Internsas assigned.
  • Attend department and staff meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
