About The Position

In support of the mission, vision, and values of Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides direct patient and student care under the supervision of a licensed and certified Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA implements treatment programs developed by the supervising SLP, maintains clinical documentation, and supports high‑quality, evidence‑based service delivery that promotes positive outcomes for children and families. Services are delivered in accordance with departmental standards, regulatory requirements, and program‑specific guidelines. For school‑based roles, services are implemented as outlined in each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant issued by the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, and Speech‑Language Pathologists (required).
  • CPR certification required within three months of hire.
  • For school‑based positions: Ability to obtain and maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification at the required level; training provided by the department.
  • Associate’s degree or higher meeting coursework requirements established by the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, and Speech‑Language Pathologists.
  • Completion of all clinical requirements for SLPA licensure in Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with pediatric populations with developmental disabilities and/or communication disorders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement speech‑language intervention programs developed by a supervising SLP using evidence‑based practices and departmental quality standards.
  • Collaborate with families, medical providers, educators, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care and optimal service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete case management activities in accordance with Institute policies and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CARF, MSDE, ASHA).
  • Participate in required supervisory meetings with the supervising SLP to review progress, adjust treatment plans, and support clinical decision‑making.
  • Support clinical operations, including preparing therapy materials, maintaining equipment, assisting with scheduling, supporting parent or staff trainings, and assisting with clinical research activities.
  • Refer all questions related to evaluation, diagnosis, interpretation of findings, referrals, or counseling to the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and professional development activities, with supervising SLP present as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with departmental and Institute goals.
