About The Position

Position Description Position Title: Special Education Speech & Language Pathologist 0.5 FTE Location: Thorne Elementary School-Multiple Bldgs. Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Services Closing Date: Open Until Filled Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications: Endorsement - current CCC-SLP Annual Certification AND Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist License Must meet or exceed requirements specified with NCA Standards for Accreditation and No Child Left Behind Extensive knowledge of special education rules, guidelines and procedures Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong project management skills Demonstrates strong consultation skills for supporting special education skills in inclusive settings Demonstrates expertise in collaborative teaching to support special education students in inclusive settings Responsibilities: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: Provide specialized, group and individualized speech/language instruction to Special Education students in general education through push-in and pull-out service delivery models Adhere to Michigan's speech/language guidelines for eligibility, service delivery and exit criteria Provide consultative support to the general education teachers through routinely scheduled consultation related to the progress of identified students Manage student behaviors and maximize student engagement/achievement Facilitate open, continuous communication with general education staff, administrators and parents Develop, coordinate and conduct REEDs, METs, and IEPs Administer and interpret comprehensive speech/language testing for annual and three-year reevaluations utilizing standard and nonstandard assessment procedures Familiarity and participation in the student support team process Maintain accurate and complete records, according to district policies/procedures and IDEA law Collaborate with early intervention providers, such as Head Start and Stottlemeyer Attend all Special Education and building staff meetings and professional development Participate in building and/or district committees Adhere to policies of the Westwood Community Board of Education Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Special Education Director or Building Principal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students Ability and patience to work interactively with students Skill in organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to deliver teaching instruction in accordance with improved curriculum and standards Excellent skills in verbal and written communication Ability to understand the individual needs of each student Ability to effectively use Google Suite and the student information system - MiStar Ability to take accurate and timely attendance Ability to check and respond to email at least 3 times a day - before school, during prep, and after school
