About The Position

This is a temporary position with the Agency Office of State Human Resources Division Temporary Solutions, specifically for the Department of Health and Human Services in Haywood County. The role involves providing speech/language pathology services to children aged birth to three, both in-person and virtually. The position aims to provide a solid Human Resource management foundation, responsible oversight, and creative solutions through a collaborative approach with all stakeholders to maximize the potential of our employees. Temporary employees working an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology
  • 2 years of experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist
  • Licensed to practice as a speech/language pathologist in the state of North Carolina
  • Employee is responsible for maintaining licensure in good standing
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of speech/language pathology as applicable to children birth to three, including speech and language development, articulation, phonology, oral-motor function and pediatric dysphagia
  • Working knowledge of augmentative communication options and devices for this population
  • Ability to deliver SLP services both in-person and virtually
  • Ability to evaluate patient response and progress and to present evaluative reports in case staffings and multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, patients’ families, medical personnel, and other CDSA staff members, and to deal tactfully with the public
  • Ability to travel throughout a 4-county area as needed (travel reimbursement or state vehicle provided)
  • Considerable knowledge of services, policies and procedures related to area of specialization
  • Ability to compile, assimilate and organize printed and electronic information
  • Ability to utilize relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary pediatric setting
  • Certification of Clinical Competence by the American Speech Language Hearing Association
