SpEd Paraprofessional - Resource performs the day-to-day activities of teaching special education students while under the supervision of a teacher. The teaching assistant does not make diagnostic or long-term education decisions regarding special education students. This includes individuals who may or may not be licensed. Note: This position addresses current student needs at the specified school. If the current program/school should experience a change in student needs, the individual filling this position may be required to change locations to another school where needs are demonstrated. Reports consistently for work as scheduled Performs other duties as assigned Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards Obtains and maintains certifications necessary to support students with special needs Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers Assists individual students in performing activities instructed by a teacher Under supervision of a teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher Monitors behavior contracts and reward systems for students Assists the student(s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks Maintains, orders, and organizes inventory of materials in an effective manner Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes Completes daily paper work (i.e. attendance reports, detention slips, student referral slips, various student passes, etc.) Assists with non-standardized testing of students Tutors students in various subject areas Assists in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment as assigned Provides initial first aid/emergency care Works with students in one-to-one/group situations Helps to resolve disciplinary student issues Removes disruptive, defiant children Supervises loading and unloading of buses Provides individual tutoring for students in computer skills and usage Assists students in finding materials and books in library Assists teachers in locating materials for classroom, and assembles materials for teachers’ use as directed Conducts story time for students Monitors students during recess, hall duty, and passing periods Supervises students in the use of the various programs on the computer Provides personal assistance to students, including dispensing medication Assists the student(s) assigned with physical tasks such as putting on and taking off of outerwear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, maneuvers and secures wheelchairs, and so on Performs tasks for student(s) such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, and the like Accompanies the student(s) to whom assigned when trips to the office or to the school nurse are necessary Serves as a resource person to the student personnel evaluation team concerning an assigned student Performs Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques when appropriate, after training Accompanies and assists student(s) while in the classroom setting Attends meetings and conferences as required Attends pre-job training, ongoing training, and meetings as required during the school year in order to remain up-to-date of job procedures Laminates all materials as needed Performs miscellaneous clerical duties and assists other staff members
