The Specimen Collector's role is highly specific, involving the management of specimen collection supplies, assembly and entry of test requisition data into the laboratory information system, assisting patients and/or client staff with specimen collection, preparing and shipping specimens to the laboratory for testing, and delivering test results to the client, all in relation to testing provided by Luxor. Federal regulations stipulate that the specialist may not perform other tasks without prior managerial approval. The Collector must be able to process up to 4 specimens per hour, managing multiple specimens at various stages of completion, and utilizing idle time for tasks like gathering chart notes, medical necessity documentation, and preparing requisitions and supplies. The role also requires adherence to HIPAA's Security and Privacy Regulations, HITECH, and the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), specifically avoiding additional tasks that could be interpreted as clerical or medical functions unrelated to specimen collection or processing, such as taking vital signs, performing office lab tests, or general clerical services.
