About The Position

Kashi Clinical Laboratories (KCL) provides diagnostic testing to hospitals and clinics throughout the world. We are currently seeking a Specimen Collector to join our team. Job Overview The Specimen Collector performs urine specimen collections for toxicology testing using supervised and unsupervised methods. The role requires strict adherence to established collection protocols, chain‑of‑custody procedures, HIPAA regulations, and professional standards for patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Sex-Specific Requirement (BFOQ) Due to patient privacy and dignity requirements during observed urine specimen collections, this position has been designated as a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) and is limited to male employees. This requirement is essential to the performance of the job’s core duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience in specimen collection or a related healthcare or clinical setting preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to write legibly and perform basic data entry
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact compassionately and professionally with patients in sensitive situations
  • Sound judgment and professionalism in routine and non‑routine situations
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity required for handling specimens and documentation
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, pushing, or pulling
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy
  • Ability to safely handle biological specimens, chemicals, and required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in routine and pressure situations

Responsibilities

  • Perform supervised and unsupervised urine specimen collections in accordance with client site protocols and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct observed urine specimen collections for individuals of the same sex, as required to maintain patient privacy and dignity
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries during all patient interactions
  • Accurately enter patient and test information into the KCL web portal
  • Prepare, package, and ship specimens in compliance with laboratory and courier requirements
  • Verify patient identity, insurance information, and electronic test orders
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and legible documentation and maintain proper chain of custody
  • Assist the KCL billing team with obtaining required patient or practice information when necessary
  • Transport or arrange transportation of specimens to the laboratory as required
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable privacy, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Travel to designated client sites as required
  • Participate in required training and educational activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
