About The Position

Mercyhealth is seeking a Specialty Pharmacist to serve as a clinical lead for their specialty pharmacy program within clinics and retail pharmacies in Rockford. This role involves partnering with providers and team members to promote entity-owned pharmacies, collaborating with leadership on strategic goals, and monitoring patient medication therapy. The Specialty Pharmacist will also supervise pharmacy technicians and prior authorization coordinators, support the prior authorization process, and may float to cover pharmacy needs in outpatient settings. Academic functions, such as precepting pharmacy students, are also part of the role. The position requires maintaining professionalism, staying current with professional literature and continuing education, and adhering to federal and state pharmacy regulations. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy program
  • Illinois Pharmacist license required
  • Wisconsin Pharmacist license to be obtained within 9 months upon hire
  • Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring)
  • Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check
  • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions
  • Knowledge of retail pharmacy operations, prior authorization processes and patient copay or assistance programs
  • Computer experience, including internet and email
  • Strong accuracy skills
  • Excellent interpretive/analytical skills for pharmaceutical calculations for drug dosage, IV rates, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professionalism and conducts self as a role model, serving as a resource for the other retail and clinic partners
  • Partner with providers and Mercyhealth team members to promote the use of entity owned pharmacies
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure strategic goals for the department are achieved
  • Serve as the clinical lead for the specialty pharmacy program for Mercyhealth clinics and retail pharmacy in Rockford
  • Is an expert outpatient pharmacist who relies on skills of comprehensive knowledge and experience
  • Monitor patients’ response to medication therapy and consults with providers to make appropriate adjustments
  • Provides supervision for pharmacy technicians and/or prior authorization coordinators to ensure efficient quality care for Mercyhealth patients
  • Supports prior authorization process by submitting, appealing or coordinating with patient’s insurance plans
  • May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs within the outpatient setting
  • Assist with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students
  • Maintains practice by ongoing professional literature review, continuing education and self-evaluation
  • Maintains competencies in federal and state regulations related to pharmacy practice
