Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Reporting to the Manager - Water Resources and ROW Management -Track Engineering, you will support both heavy rail and light transit systems with the development of water resources track standards for design, construction, and maintenance. The role further supports technical review and development of design drawings and work plans to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of capital and State of Good Repair contracts.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, or any combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience related to railway, passenger heavy, and light rail transit water resource management engineering and the applicable standards and regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge Track water resource management industries best practices in designs, construction, maintenance, and lifecycle assessment for sustainable design.
  • Valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, in the province of Ontario or the ability to obtain P.Eng. will be considered an asset.
  • Valid, non-probationary "G" Class Province of Ontario driver’s licence.
  • Excellent technical and applied knowledge, and design experience in civil and/or water resources engineering.
  • Strong problem solving and influencing skills to establish effective working relationships, negotiate, and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority.
  • Technical writing skills and good presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, in the province of Ontario or the ability to obtain P.Eng. will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development of new or revised track Right of Way (ROW) water resources infrastructure management technical standards, standard plans, and track material specifications in compliance with existing Metrolinx standards, applicable regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Supports track design and engineering to ensure track infrastructure water resource management designs are safe and following Metrolinx and industry standards.
  • Provide technical expertise for review of track water resource management-related designs/constructions and work plan methodologies (WPM) to ensure compliance and conformance with Metrolinx, regional, provincial, and industry track standards, and identify deviations from requisite standards.
  • Lead assurance and compliance with delivery of water resource management-related design and maintenance activities to address any deficiencies and sub-standards design to improve asset performance and reliability.
  • Participates in the research and continual development of existing and new Metrolinx Water Resources Management Track Standards and Standard Plans through collaboration with various internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors/suppliers, and academic institutions.
  • Reviews track water resources management related designs/constructions and work plan methodologies (WPM) to ensure compliance and conformance with Metrolinx, regional, provincial, and industry track standards, and identify deviations from requisite standards with little or no support.
  • Engages and collaborates with staff at all levels throughout the organization to manage and implement programs; liaises with departments working on related initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies to ensure continuous improvement in track engineering practices as they related to rail corridor water resources management and innovation in water resources management for the rail corridor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
