About The Position

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Specialist provides mentorship and support to Centers for Academic Success (CAS) leadership to maintain a high quality, comprehensive SI program. The SI Specialist functions as a mentor/lead to SI Leaders across three campuses in conjunction with the Coordinator and Director of CAS. The person in this position will support daily program operation, communicate tasks and policies, assist in the selection of SI Leaders and Mentors, and aid in organizing and implementing all training and on-going professional development of SI Leaders. The SI Specialist meets routinely with SI Leaders and Mentors and assists with both on-site and online administration of the SI program; and serves as secondary liaison with departmental administrators and faculty members. All these activities will ensure a high-quality program that increases student engagement and learning in targeted courses, resulting in an increase of student completions, and improved academic performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of comparable professional experience.

  • Experience working with a Supplemental Instruction Program as a SI Leader or Mentor.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training and workshops.
  • Experience developing and delivering online learning and training.
  • Experience as a “lead” or mentor employee, assisting with scheduling, training, and hiring.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Knowledge of learning support services, such as mentoring, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, or in-class facilitation.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training workshops.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with complex and detailed information.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and maintain sound organizational practices.
  • Ability to work with SI Coordinator and CAS Leadership to accomplish short- and long-term goals.
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of CSN students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and take actions independently for a variety of diverse situations.
  • Show a high degree of creativity and initiative.
