You’ll guide staff, mentor emerging leaders, and ensure programs—from arts & crafts and sports to rock walls, challenge courses, boating and more —run smoothly, safely, and with plenty of ruach (spirit!). Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hiring.
  • Prior experience working in a camp environment or with youth programs.
  • Familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays, and values; comfort working in a pluralistic Jewish environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
  • Requires knowledge and familiarity with the needs and abilities of children, as well as proficiency in designated activity subject area, to create and lead curriculum for meaningful and joyous experiences for all campers, including but not limited to:
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.
  • Able to handle interpersonal issues among staff or campers calmly and effectively.
  • Expertise in one or more specialty areas (e.g., arts, sports, science, drama, etc.).
  • Ability to plan and adapt programming for diverse age groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Commitment to creating a safe, fun, and supportive camp atmosphere.
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Must be able to utilize phone for payroll hours entry
  • Must be able to work in-person, on-site in Dover, Massachusetts
  • Must be able to navigate 70 acres of rugged, uneven and rustic campgrounds independently
  • Comfortable working all or most of the day outdoors or inside without air conditioning
  • Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children’s backpacks etc.)
  • Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, support, and mentor specialist staff, providing guidance and constructive feedback.
  • Coordinate and organize daily schedules for specialty activities, ensuring variety and quality programming.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of campers during all specialty activities, adhering to camp policies and procedures.
  • Keep accurate attendance and manage and approve payroll through JCC payroll applications (currently Paylocity).
  • Manage staffing and schedule changes when necessary, ensuring all campers have fun, safe and appropriate activities available always.
  • Facilitate staff training and ongoing professional development in specialty program areas.
  • Communicate effectively with camp leadership and counselors regarding program updates and schedule changes including staff coverage.
  • Maintain inventory and care of specialty supplies and equipment, ensuring all materials are safe and in good condition.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and enthusiastic camp environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Able and willing to follow directions from supervisors and follow all protocols.
  • Attends all mandatory training and in-services.
  • Supports JCC goals and objectives.
  • Other activities as required by the organization.
  • Supervise and support Specialists by providing ongoing guidance, conducting regular check-ins, and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Conduct reviews of specialist personnel in early to mid-summer, creating action plans for improvement if needed.
  • Provide end-of-summer feedback to all specialists; determines if specialist is eligible for re-hire in the following season.
  • Monitor specialist attendance and approve digital timecards.
  • Uphold the policies of the organization and align work with the overall mission, vision and strategic objectives of the JCC; report any related issues.
  • Ensure all activities are run in accordance with all relevant regulations, and in accordance with any best practices identified by Camp Grossman.
  • Create/facilitate an environment where employees can achieve individual goals.
  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship to achieve desired outcomes and the ongoing professional growth of the direct report(s).
  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment where everyone is valued and respected
  • Actively participate as an essential team member and attend all staff meetings during or after camp as required
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation through structured activities and role modeling
  • Enthusiastically represent the organization, modeling excellence and achievement
  • Complete all staff payroll and onboarding on time and before Orientation begins
  • Complete all pre-camp asynchronous on-line training modules and attend all pre-camp virtual and in-person orientation sessions
  • Other duties as assigned
