About The Position

Dean of Students Office and University Housing at Arizona State University seek a Specialist Sr for ASU California Centers to assist with all aspects of the university housing operation and residential life in LA. The Specialist Senior is an active member of the Dean of Students Office, and reports directly to the Dean of Students, with secondary reporting and accountable to University Housing. Residency at Broadway Palace Apartments is a condition of employment. Upon termination of employment, the employee with be required to vacate the apartment within a timeframe approved by the supervisor. Living with university housing helps support students as they grow and develop the skills necessary to navigate the college environment. This is an exciting opportunity for the Specialist Senior to support a residential community within our partner apartment complex, Broadway Palace. This position oversees the daily operations of University Housing in Los Angeles, fostering a welcoming community that is both academically and socially engaging, while reinforcing guidelines, policies, and standards that support the safety and wellbeing of every student. The Specialist Senior will have a heavy emphasis on collaboration with colleagues to develop and advance a collective vision for the student experience. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: housing operational procedures (i.e., assignments, occupancy, license agreement releases, billing, move in/out), developing a residential community and overseeing all aspects of the residential life program (i.e., event planning, academic college partnerships, roommate conflicts, student issue resolution, safety and security planning), addressing and responding to critical incidents in a 24/7 response modality, establishing relationships with Broadway Palace management and other local apartment community management, supervision of assigned staff which could include student staff or professional staff, serving on institutional committees, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related experience; OR, nine (9) years of related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • University Housing Administration
  • Assist with assigning students housing to ensure that each bed space is filled to capacity and track accurate data and information regarding residents.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to proactively address and help resolve barriers affecting residential students’ success—including, but not limited to, roommate conflicts, access to resources, and support for personal challenges—while elevating more complex or serious matters to the Dean of Students.
  • Track housing accommodations in collaboration with University Housing and Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services (SAILS) team.
  • Serve as the point of contact for 24/7 critical incident and student issue response and follow up care coordination with appropriate services.
  • May supervise staff including hiring, coaching/developing, evaluating and implementing corrective/disciplinary actions if required.
  • Collaborate with academic partners and University Housing staff regarding operational decisions such as community configurations in StarRez; opening and closing procedures and logistics; room inspections and billing; and hiring, evaluation and termination of professional and student staff members.
  • Implement programs and services in support of student success, including activities and events
  • Work with key stakeholders and departments on and off campus including: Police Agencies, Broadway Palace staff, ASU Office of the Dean of Students, ASU University Housing, ASU New Student Programs, ASU Family and many more.
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing procedures to assure safety and building security for residents in collaboration with Broadway Palace Management Team.
  • Assist with crisis situations within residential communities in collaboration with the appropriate partners, such as Student Rights & Responsibilities, ASU Counseling, Police, Dean of Students office, and more.
  • Administer student conduct processes by working with a liaison from Student Rights & Responsibilities to review incident reports, adjudicate conduct cases that involve removal from on-campus housing, and assist with investigations.
  • Support students with prompt attention to facilities related issues/concerns and proficient use of submitting work requests during and after hours with Broadway Palace Management.
  • Assist in the management and supervision of summer operations including turnover of residents living in the facility.
  • Participate in hall opening and hall closing planning processes according to scheduled building usage.
  • Participate as an actively engaged member of the ASU, EOSS and University Housing leadership team.
  • Provide tours of Broadway Palace Apartments to prospective students and families.
  • Asist in building affinity and support of ASU through spirit, pride, and traditions through university-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Assess and evaluate programs and services impacting student success and retention.
  • Serve on University committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
