About The Position

The Procurement Specialist provides procurement support to the project and operational readiness teams for goods, materials, equipment and consumable requirements across the entire procurement life cycle and leads sourcing, procurement, expediting and asset management support activities relevant to company and project requirements. These activities include category management, supplier onboarding, supplier due diligence, RFP/RFQ activities, evaluations, purchase orders, cost reconciliation, supply chain processes, negotiations, and vendor performance.  This role is based in Tucson, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Supply Chain, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain in construction, mining, or heavy industry strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Aconex, Contract Management/ERP systems
  • Previous contract & procurement applications experience such as SAP, Ariba, CCMS, etc.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture
  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain composure, set priorities, and work with a project team
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Excellent attention to detail and task prioritization
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills
  • Effective communication with other departments and leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified in Supply Management (CSM), or other recognized supply chain certifications considered an asset.
  • Experience with Blanket Purchase Agreements, Master Supply Agreements, Catalogue Agreements etc highly regarded
  • Spanish language skills highly regarded

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-award procurement activities for goods and materials, including preparation of RFQs/RFPs, tendering processes, bid package issuance, and supplier clarifications.
  • Perform commercial evaluation, clarification, and adjudication of vendor proposals and support negotiation and recommendation for award.
  • Participate in procurement and supply risk reviews, analysis and communicating risks associated with material availability, lead times, and supplier performance that may impact project or operational outcomes.
  • Perform post-award procurement activities including purchase order issuance, supplier onboarding, expediting, and ensuring compliance with delivery and quality requirements (including warranty management).
  • Manage vendor relationships through progress meetings, invoice validation, change order management, and supplier performance reporting (KPIs, delivery reliability, quality compliance, claims management, etc.), through to final contract or purchase order closeout.
  • Build credibility with suppliers and stakeholders, driving alignment to agreed sourcing strategies and ensuring value delivery in line with South32 values and Hermosa project goals.
  • Ensure the company’s code of business conduct, health, safety, and sustainability values are communicated and adhered to by our vendors and service providers.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of procurement and materials management processes.
