About The Position

As a member of the Academy’s communications team, the priority for this position is to manage outreach and communications related to actuarial professionalism and public policy in support of the Academy’s mission. The primary charge for this position is to build awareness and understanding—with all Academy audiences—of the actuarial profession associated with both our public policy work and the self-regulating infrastructure the Academy provides to the U.S. actuarial profession. As such, the specialist must be well-versed in creating targeted, but integrated, campaigns, utilizing vetted messaging and multiple outreach channels including, but not limited to social media, web updates, and more.

Requirements

  • Proven social media acumen, including developing and promoting campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn using both organic and promoted content.
  • Proven communications campaign planning and implementation skills and track record.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to make complex technical material comprehensible to general audiences.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Diplomacy, patience, and a positive attitude.
  • Experience in website copy development and editing using WordPress, and working knowledge of HTML layout and code.
  • Excellent computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft office, webinar tools, social media, internet research, email marketing tools, member databases, adobe creative cloud, CMS, HTML and CSS coding.
  • Minimum of four to five years of relevant experience in outreach and communications is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree and previous experience with a professional association preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and senior staff in the formulation of appropriate strategies and tactics on all communications issues affecting the profession.
  • Create and implement targeted social media and/or other promoted campaigns that support and promote current challenges and opportunities facing actuarial professionalism and public policy, and in alignment with the mission and priorities of the Academy as a whole.
  • Regularly identify and promote actuarial professionalism exemplified by Academy members, and in Academy initiatives, and published works.
  • Develop and promote social media campaigns for the Academy, encompassing both our Public Policy and Professionalism output, including published works from the ASB and ABCD, on Academy social media channels in a way that allows actuarial professionals to easily access and navigate the material.
  • Manage and monitor the Academy’s social media channels and content calendar.
  • Track, analyze and report on key metrics including, but not limited to, social media activity, media coverage, and web activity.
  • With the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and other staff, develop and implement a strategic communications plan for the Academy.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications in developing multi-media projects (videos, presentations, podcasts, infographics, webinars and web meetings, etc.) to promote awareness and understanding of all aspects of professionalism to both member and external audiences.
  • Support Academy service awards program, including promotion of award application period and award recipients.
  • Manage outreach, promotion, and fulfillment of Academy products, such as the Magic School Bus and Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Manage uploading the new issues of the Academy’s bi-monthly magazine, Contingencies.
  • Manage digital advertising on the Contingencies website and other platforms.
  • Support Academy media outreach by distributing Academy news releases, media advisories, and related materials; and maintaining and updating specialized media lists.
  • Assist in graphic design work as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
