About The Position

Configure, document, install, maintain, manage and troubleshoot Collin's wired and wireless networks. Travel between campuses to provide network support for faculty, staff and students.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution and at least one (1) year of related experience.
  • Certification in Novell Networks (CNA), Microsoft (MCSE), or any entry level certification for Intel or Cisco.
  • Must always meet minimum education requirements UNLESS an acceptable combination is specifically defined in the job description.
  • This position is Security Sensitive, therefore, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and install switches as new data closets are added and/or install switches when additional switch ports are needed.
  • Patch in and configure switch ports for network devices.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems related to cabling, file server connectors and hardware.
  • Maintain network system documentation and records.
  • Maintain configuration backups and firmware copies.
  • Track network system performance and write management reports summarizing network performance.
  • Use assigned programs for tracking network performance.
  • Travel between sites to provide software and hardware support for faculty, staff and students on network hardware and network-related software problems.
  • Maintain an inventory of the LAN, including cable, hub and switch installations.
  • Monitor the data communications network to ensure availability to all system users.
  • Resolve data communications problems.
  • Monitor network operations and troubleshoot network problems.
  • Install and/or replace cards, cabling and other hardware as necessary.
  • Maintain hardware and software maintenance for the district's network equipment.
  • Work with vendors on requesting quotes for maintenance renewals.
  • Maintain list of equipment maintenance dates and contact vendor for maintenance requests.
  • Serve as liaison for network users to obtain clarification of problems and to identify solutions and/or corrective actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
