About The Position

This person will be part of the Anode Materials division and will report directly to the Process Engineering Manager. The Engineering Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the operation, commissioning, and qualification of mechanical processing equipment and systems. This position will work closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to support both day-to-day production and new equipment startup activities. Requirements

  • Proficient in all aspects of equipment and testing requirements for rotating (motors, pumps, compressors, etc.) and static (vessels, heaters, piping, exchangers, etc.) mechanical equipment
  • Attentive to detail, able to digest large quantities of data, make connections between the data, and execute process changes based on those connections
  • Someone who works and communicates well under pressure, and can make, execute, and justify operational decisions
  • Comfortable communicating with a broad spectrum of associates, including operators, engineers, managers, contractors, vendors, and supervisors
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills, including Microsoft 365
  • Able to multitask and work without immediate supervision
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Passionate about creating and maintaining a great work culture
  • Willing to go the extra mile to get the job done and to satisfy customers/stakeholders
  • A high school graduate or GED; post-secondary degree in industrial maintenance, automation, or process technology preferred
  • An experienced engineering or process technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in mechanical operations, equipment commissioning, or process validation in industrial or manufacturing environments

Nice To Haves

  • Millwright Certification
  • Advanced degree or course work in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similar
  • Carbon, battery, or graphite manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals
  • Familiarity with a MES is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and troubleshoot mechanical processing equipment including crushers, mills, shapers, blenders, and sieves
  • Execute commissioning and qualification activities for new and existing equipment
  • Perform functional testing and verification of mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Manage and issue Safe Work Permits and implement and control LOTO
  • Read and understand P&IDs and cut sheets; verifying equipment specs, valve locations, and adequate safety devices
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to turnover packages
  • Support and deliver operator and maintenance personnel training
  • Carry out general to advanced mechanical tasks utilizing hand or power tools, as needed
  • Perform continuous communications with operators, management, and engineering
  • Follow all company policies with regards to health, safety, environmental, quality, and performance.
  • Works closely with the Engineering department on cost reduction opportunities on the mechanical equipment and its processes
  • Other duties as assigned
