About The Position

The Specialist, Jewelry & Watches is responsible for growing Freeman's business by building long-term relationships with private collectors, institutions, and industry contacts, while serving as a subject-matter expert in the jewelry and watch market.

Requirements

  • Graduate Gemologist with 8+ years of experience in the jewelry industry, including expertise in diamonds, colored stones, and signed pieces.
  • 3–5 years of appraisal experience and strong hands-on knowledge of current market pricing.
  • Familiarity with contemporary, antique, and vintage jewelry.
  • Proven ability to generate new business and build client relationships.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong client service orientation with professionalism and discretion.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up, multitasking, and time management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word and Excel).
  • Able to thrive in fast-paced environments, work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and eager to contribute to a dynamic team.
  • Perform light physical tasks, including lifting and moving items such as boxes, files, and other materials up to 20 pounds, unless otherwise specified.
  • Operate standard office equipment proficiently, including phones, computers, copiers, and other commonly used devices or software applications.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal teams and external contacts; sufficient hearing is required for routine interactions.
  • Understand and accurately process written materials and documentation.
  • Work efficiently in a traditional office environment, including extended periods of sitting, with the flexibility to adapt to various work settings as needed.

  • Auction house experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively generate and maintain business with private collectors, focusing on increasing transaction volume.
  • Travel to regional offices, particularly in the Midwest and West regions, to support business development and evaluate consignments for upcoming sales.
  • Conduct gem identification, property evaluation, and research on authenticity, provenance, and jewelry design history to assess sale potential.
  • Research and catalogue property for auction, including assigning accurate estimates.
  • Serve as a key contact for client inquiries related to valuations, consignments, and pre-auction condition reports.
  • Collaborate with Jewelry and Watch Specialists to promote auctions, engage clients at previews, track interest, and execute bids.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to develop strategies for identifying new consignors and delivering exceptional client service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
