About The Position

Under the direction of the QAPI and Risk Manager, the Specialist II – Quality, Safety, and Patient Relations supports a culture of safety, quality improvement, and patient-centered care across Pagosa Springs Medical Center. This role serves as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team while supporting Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and patient safety initiatives. The Specialist must demonstrate strong communication, de-escalation, investigation, and analytical skills while working collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare experience, preferably in quality, patient safety, or patient advocacy
  • Strong knowledge of QAPI methodologies and patient safety principles
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations and work effectively under pressure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, EHR systems, and quality reporting tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Critical Access Hospitals or rural healthcare settings preferred, but not required
  • CPHQ certification or willingness to obtain within one year preferred
  • Patient Safety certifications (CPSO, CPPS, or equivalent) preferred
  • Current RN license (if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Patient Relations Serve as a primary point of contact for patient and family concerns, complaints, and grievances
  • Promote patient-centered communication and educate staff on patient rights and service recovery
  • Collaborate with care teams to resolve concerns while maintaining confidentiality and compliance
  • Quality & Patient Safety Support QAPI initiatives and performance improvement activities
  • Collect, analyze, and report quality and patient safety data for required programs
  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
  • Monitor compliance with patient safety goals, policies, and procedures
  • Risk Management Support Participate in event reporting, investigation, and follow-up using the organization’s reporting system
  • Assist with required state and federal reporting related to safety and quality events
  • Support patient safety surveys and service recovery activities
