About The Position

The Extracurricular Specialist provides management, training, and oversight for student activities programs with an emphasis on the professional development of advisers, the engagement of students in activities programs, and the development of student leaders. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in education, school administration, or a related field
  • Five (5) years of experience working at the school level as a coach, sponsor, or activities coordinator
  • Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse student populations and families
  • Understanding of school policies, state codes, and federal regulations governing student activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies.
  • Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for the Chief of Schools and directors of the Department of School Leadership
  • Serves as the primary contact for approval of special events and activities
  • Works closely with the Assistant Director, Athletics and Student Activities in governing student activities
  • Coordinates with the Office of Risk Management and Procurement to review student-initiated new club requests
  • Supports and assists in the coordination of the work with principals in responding to stakeholder concerns
  • Coordinates with Risk Management to guide school-based administrators for school-based events
  • Collects activity sponsor data and works with HRTD supervisor to ensure all sponsors are vetted
  • Supports the Chief of Schools in training principals and school leaders on elevating student voice
  • Conducts regular meetings with Student Activities and Engagement Coordinators and provides training to support their work
  • Develops district-wide student leadership development opportunities
  • Creates annual reports on student activities participation across the district
  • Provides professional development for student activity advisers
  • Provides management, training, and oversight for student activities programs
  • Maintains the online collection of student activity resources and tools for use by activity advisers
  • Supports analysis of student participation in school activities
  • Provides training and guidance to school-based staff on entering and maintaining data on student activities participation
  • Coordinates with advisers to organize opportunities for collaboration and networking between district student groups
  • Organizes district-wide opportunities to recognize student leaders
  • Promotes participation in professional development for advisers through involvement in state and national activity organizations
  • Collaborates with Business and Finance office on equitable financial procedures for student activity groups
  • Assists with budget preparation for Athletics and Activities office with emphasis on increasing student engagement and involvement in student activities
