About The Position

As a Specialist Electrical Engineer within our Surveillance product line, you are focused on developing TCAS and transponder radios, contributing to the electrical engineering discipline through initial concept generation, design, qualification, and lifecycle management. You will interact with business development and all engineering functions. You will be involved with multidisciplinary project teams involving mechanical, electrical digital/analog, RF, firmware, and software engineering in planning, designing, prototyping, documenting, and testing of avionics transponders, RF, and sensor-based systems. Design focus will include surveillance avionics for Air Transport, as well as General Aviation and emerging platforms such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) eVTOL aircraft.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with electrical hardware design (aerospace applications preferred).
  • Hands on experience designing and developing avionics products, RF, or sensor systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of at least one software language (python or C++ desirable)
  • Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • Awareness of FPGA/firmware development requirements as they impact electrical design
  • Experience with RTOS integration and understanding of its implications on hardware design
  • Practical understanding of the complexities of RF design, especially in L-band frequency range
  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
  • Knowledge of DO-160, DO-178, and DO-254
  • Experience with Design to Cost and Design for Manufacturability
  • Experience effectively supporting production and test of products in a different geographic location
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Ability to operate and identify appropriate path forward with minimal oversight
  • Pilot License or Part 107 certificate

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, integrate, and qualify digital, analog, and power circuitry, with supplemental RF principles, in the avionics realm.
  • Design circuits with microprocessors, memory, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, high-speed busses including PCIE, and various avionics interfaces.
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic generation and review. Support for and review of CAD layout (preferred skills with Altium).
  • Generate design documents including HRDs, HDDs, and HCIAs. Provide inputs to generate certification documents such as PHACs.
  • Work effectively designing individual circuits, aircraft system architectures, and everything in between.
  • Familiarity with electrical analysis tools for power distribution, stress analysis, and other relevant simulations.
  • Participate in the proposal process for programs with EE requirements by estimating tasks, identifying risk and planning development.
  • Effectively communicate across multiple technical teams.
  • Communicate directly with customers, in person or virtually, to understand their problems and formulate actionable solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 10%.
