About The Position

The Specialist, Configuration Management II (SCM3) is responsible for advanced configuration management (CM) processes, procedures, and tools to support system development, integration, and lifecycle sustainment activities. This role ensures integrity, traceability, and control of system configurations across hardware, software, documentation, and baselines. The SCM3 works independently and may lead configuration management efforts supporting complex DoD systems and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s
  • Minimum of 10 years of configuration management experience supporting DoD or federal programs
  • Strong knowledge of configuration management principles, standards (e.g., EIA-649), and best practices
  • Experience supporting Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and change management processes
  • Proficiency with CM tools and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN, or equivalent)
  • Experience managing configuration baselines and documentation control
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DoD acquisition lifecycle and systems engineering processes
  • Familiarity with RMF, cybersecurity documentation, and accreditation processes
  • Experience with automated CM tools and DevOps environments
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CMII, Security+)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management plans, policies, and procedures
  • Establish and manage configuration baselines for hardware, software, and documentation
  • Control and track configuration changes through formal change management processes (CCB support)
  • Perform configuration audits (functional and physical) to ensure compliance with requirements
  • Maintain configuration status accounting and reporting for all configuration items (CIs)
  • Ensure version control and integrity of system documentation and software repositories
  • Support system lifecycle activities including development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment
  • Coordinate with engineering, cybersecurity, and program management teams to ensure CM compliance
  • Utilize CM tools (e.g., Git, SVN, SharePoint, Remedy, or similar) to manage configuration items
  • Identify and resolve CM discrepancies, risks, and process gaps
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior CM personnel
