The Position: Position General Summary: The Specialist, Communications - Student & Family Engagement, supports the development and execution of communications that connect Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and FlexPoint with more than 235,000 students and their families. Reporting to the Manager, Communications - Student & Family Engagement, this role plays a key part in delivering clear, engaging, and timely messaging across student- and family-facing channels for FLVS Full Time Public Schools, FLVS Flex (individual courses), and FlexPoint Virtual School. This role requires a creative and detail-oriented communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The Specialist, Communications helps bring the FLVS and FlexPoint experience to life through storytelling, content creation, and campaign support. They collaborate with internal teams and contribute to initiatives that enhance the student experience, support enrollment and retention, and build trust with families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field
  • 3+ years of communications experience
  • Public relations experience, preferably in the education industry
  • Familiarity with communications and marketing strategies, design, digital marketing, advertising, and integrated communications plans
  • Working knowledge of AP Style, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all written communications
  • Ability to work with and through people to establish goals, objectives, and action plans
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization and delegation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and coordination skills
  • Strong presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing messaging that reflects the values, programs, and impact of FLVS and FlexPoint.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and brand across all student- and family-facing communications.
  • Help maintain editorial calendars and ensure deadlines are met across multiple projects.
  • Write, edit, and proofread high-quality content for blogs, newsletters, email campaigns, web content, and other student- and family-facing communications.
  • Manage daily moderation of the FLVS Facebook group, fostering a positive and supportive environment for families.
  • Respond to social media messages and inquiries from parents with empathy, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Coordinate across the organization to assist in finding compelling stories that help position the organization as a leader in online K–12 education.
  • Coordinate with the Specialist, Social Media to align messaging across platforms and support organic social media campaigns.
  • Contribute to the planning and production of content for student activities, events, webinars, and family engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Florida and National marketing teams, as needed, to support the execution of communications strategies across the student lifecycle-from awareness and enrollment to onboarding, retention, and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Student Services, Enrollment, Instruction, and Customer Care to ensure messaging is accurate, timely, and aligned with student needs.
  • Monitor engagement metrics and assist in reporting performance insights to inform future strategy.
  • Stay informed on trends in K–12 education, family engagement, and digital communications.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational habits, including attention to detail, time management, and collaborative teamwork.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, including meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
