About The Position

NHeLP is seeking a full-time Community Manager for a two-year term. The Community Manager will help develop and operate NHeLP’s Medicaid Access Strategy Hub. The Hub provides an on-line community forum for individuals engaging in advocacy, monitoring and implementation of the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA) to mitigate its harmful impact and ensure as many individuals as possible retain their Medicaid or other health program enrollment. The position will involve a broad range of community engagement. The Community Manager will ensure the smooth operation of the Hub, recruiting members to join, developing community engagement campaigns, and supporting the policy staff on this project. The ideal candidate will have experience working with online communities and within underserved communities and will demonstrate an understanding of the issues that impact people with low income, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other underserved populations.

Requirements

  • B.A. from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years’ experience in health policy or low-income advocacy
  • Experience in community or coalition building
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively, and to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Knowledge of community building/engagement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possess a high level of independence and initiative, good judgement, excellent speaking and writing skills, the ability to produce the highest caliber work, creativity, and an ability to model working with others towards common goals

  • Ability to design email layouts and manage contact lists in Constant Contact, including adding new subscribers and maintaining distribution lists
  • Federal legislative or health care agency (HHS, CMS, etc.) experience
  • Ability to consistently integrate a deep understanding of key racial equity concepts into work projects and interactions by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions on race, class and other group identities within the context of job responsibilities and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor operation of the Hub to ensure active engagement of its members and ease of use
  • Provide technical support to site users including registration and use of the site
  • Create new webpages, topics, and conversations on the Hub as needed
  • Work with project staff to review information from the on-line community, identify patterns of concerns and offer suggestions, as appropriate, on how to alleviate the issues.
  • Provide layout and dissemination of weekly newsletters
  • Assist in development of publications for the Hub
  • Aggregate and analyze information to assimilate information, monitor community engagement and identify methods of ensuring members’ participation.
  • Conduct outreach to state organizations and partners to encourage enrollment and participation in the Hub
  • Support Hub staff in their development and maintenance of relationships with national and state advocacy organizations that participate in the Hub
  • Assist in development of trainings and presentations.
  • Assist in writing grant reports on work and document timekeeping
  • Participate in internal meetings and working groups
  • Collaborate with development, communication, and operations teams to accomplish the Hub’s goals.
