PURPOSE STATEMENT: The job of Special Programs Education Assistant/Para Professional for Students with High Needs is done for the purpose/s of effecting positive behavior change in students; assisting the teacher in helping the identified students reach academic standards; providing referrals to families and/or students; performing clerical related procedures in support of the instructional process, and complying with federal, state, county and district regulations, policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists in developing procedures and training materials for students with functional academic needs for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district, state, county and federal regulations. 2. Attends meetings as requested (e.g. inservice training, workshops, IEP's, Building Intervention Team, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/ or conveying information. 3. Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations and/or training for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with students with high needs. 4. Implements programs for students with high needs under direction of the teacher (e.g. behavioral plans, lesson plans, functional curriculum, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teaching in improving student's academic and life skill success through a defined course of study while meeting their educational and developmental needs. 5. Instructs identified students one on one or in small groups (e.g. math groups, providing proper examples, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) for the purpose of assisting students in making progress on their IEP goals. 6. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. displays, bulletin board, copying, instructional materials, visual classroom materials, collecting & grading papers, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher in preparing records and materials. 7. Prepares written and/or audio visual materials (e.g. daily log, recording observations, lesson materials, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information related to the students. 8. Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcome and encouraging student development. 9. Responds to inquiries (e.g. administrators, teachers, parents, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, direction and/or appropriate referrals. 10. Supervises individuals and/or small groups of identified students (e.g. field trips, classroom, bus, playground, lunch room, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment. OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
