About The Position

Magnolia Public Schools works to ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal laws in the area of Special Education. We support all Magnolia schools by constantly improving and providing the site-level leadership and vision to ensure continuous organizational development and program implementation. Our 504 Program strives to provide consistent support for students with other abilities who need accommodations and support completely within the general education setting. MPS is developing a more comprehensive Gifted and Talented Program for our MPS Scholars using proven research-based methodology. Our selected curriculum and materials must undergo a rigorous evaluation process that ensures MPS adheres to research-based practices that holistically and effectively support the development of gifted learners. I Duties and Responsibilities Under the guidance of the Director of Special Education and Support Services, the MPS Home Office Special Education Coordinator will support implementing school-based programs for children with learning, behavioral, physical, or mental other abilities. Essential job duties are maximizing growth potential in students, collaborating with teachers, planning special services for students, training teaching staff in UDL, accommodations implementation, special education legal and compliance matters, and creating personalized education programs for SPED, 504, and GATE Student populations. Special Education Related Program Monitoring and Support Support the director in attending weekly site-level SPED meetings Monitor SELPA compliance tracking and ensure timeline compliance with IEP meetings and program implementation/ tracking of services (SEIS and Welligent) Assist the director with developing and implementing SPED, UDL and GATE Instructional Deep-Dives and classroom observations for Team Teaching Support MPS - Wide Assist with overseeing the Medi-Cal Billing and Data Collection Program Speech and Language Assist with seeking and solidifying Language and Speech SLPAs from local Colleges and Universities to be supervised by Two MPS-Wide SLPs. Schedule service provision for all 10 MPS Schools to begin the 23-24 School year. 504 Program Related Support 504 coordinators in implementing the 504 student meetings, accommodations, and annual updates. Track and monitor the 504 student populations progress and performance. GATE Program - Assist with the new implementation of grade-level GATE assessments Magnolia Wide i.e. (3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th Grades) Support OLSAT and Ravens assessment process Monitor documentation of student plans and program implementation Assist in researching and developing curriculum materials for a comprehensive GATE program that includes: Diverse Curriculum Options, Inquiry-Based Learning, In-depth Research and Study Opportunities, Enrichment Opportunities, Real Life Application. Additional Essential Job Functions: Keep abreast of community services and resources; develop partnerships with parents, businesses/organizations, and other agencies in order to build awareness, develop support, and share resources. Collaborate effectively with Magnolia leaders, faculty, staff, families, special education teachers, and the community for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating educational services and/or programs. Implement conflict resolution skills in a variety of situations with staff, families, and the community. Set staffing levels for school special education programs for the purpose of providing services with fiscal efficiency. Support personnel, for the purpose of delivering services that conform to MPS established guidelines. Facilitate meetings and processes, for the purpose of implementing and maintaining Special Education programs and services which achieve desired objectives. Requirements

  • CTC Credential in SPED or SPED Related Field (Ed Specialist, School Psych, Speech and Language etc.).
  • Minimum of two years in an administrative or leadership role specializing in Special Education Support, Guidance, and program implementation
  • Minimum of two years of working with students in a school setting
  • Ability to drive to all MPS School Sites as necessary
  • Willingness to support all MPS Stakeholder groups with consistency and fidelity
  • Ability to make professionally reasonable, sound, judgments
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, families and community members of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage personnel and programs.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and research-based instructional pedagogy, frameworks and curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of all ADA, IDEA, IDEIA, and SPED-related laws and regulations.
  • An understanding of Charter School Management with regard to SPED program implementation.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative and adapt a birds-eye view of situations for equitable support of all MPS stakeholders
  • Knowledge of organizational systems, the role of public education in the United States, racial equity, social justice, culturally relevant/responsive instruction/practices, and special education laws and practices.
  • Willingness to commit to the body of work in the areas of SPED, 504 Plans, and GATE program implementation
  • Knowledge of MPS, SELPA, District, State, and Federal legal guidelines for supporting marginalized populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment
