About The Position

Under direction of the department chief, nurse leader or designee, this registered professional nurse position provides practice management support as well as initiating and/or assisting in the provision of direct patient care to patients, according to established guidelines. The Special Procedure nurse performs a variety of complex tasks which may include assisting in the provision of direct patient care to patients undergoing care in a procedural unit. Delivers specialty specific and/or ambulatory care including pre- and post-procedure assessment and monitoring; IV moderate sedation, chemotherapy, and intra-procedural care; for example, and not limited to: GYN Surgery, OMFS (Oral Maximus Facial Surgery) Oncology and GI procedure patients. Provides telephone triage and clinical advice appropriately; coordinates the follow-up care of patients; practice management support and patient education. Proficiency will be needed for the following; IV placement, preparation and administration of IV medication, IM injections, catheterizations, ACLS, BCLS. Attainment of privileges for IV moderate sedation as required by specialty.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a state approved school of nursing
  • Possess a current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
  • Must participate in IVMS (Intravenous Moderate Sedation) seminar every two years.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory nursing required; exceptions in consultation with VP of Nursing.
  • Must exhibit strong critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and good patient interviewing skills.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Ability to interpret clinical information, assess the implication of treatment and develop and implement a plan of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a rapidly changing environment with multiple demands.
  • Up to date with current standard of nursing care in Specialty.
  • Demonstrated excellence in practice, documentation and utilization.
  • Maintain high patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Experience with an electronic medical records system, EPIC experienced preferred.
