About The Position

The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for administrative details, and executing successful special events at the zoo that appeal to the public, build awareness for the zoo and increase revenue. They will be responsible for taking the lead on assigned events. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Events. Main Job Functions: Event Execution Work with internal and external committees and volunteers Attend zoo events as event support or event lead Assist special events team on events to build zoo attendance and revenue. Work independently and as part of a team to create exceptional guest experiences Work most events on calendar and take direction from event lead on those events where this position is not event lead. Assist with researching new event ideas or enhancing current events. Completing event team notes as applicable. Provide reports in a timely manner on attendance, revenue, expenses and marketing efforts for each event. This is a part-time, hourly position. This position is required to work some weekends, holidays and evenings to operate special events and programs. Work schedule is 3 days a week (Wednesday, Saturday and a third flex day preferably Friday or Sunday as needed for Events). This is a part-time, hourly position, work week is 24 hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required. A bachelor's degree, or a student working towards a degree, in event management, marketing, communications or related field is desired.
  • Must be prepared to drive a golf cart, occasionally work outside in all seasons, do a large amount of walking, standing, lifting, and carrying of event materials

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 1-3 years of successful experience in event planning. Marketing experience preferred
