About The Position

As a Special Education Teacher, you will connect and work one-on-one with students needing special support, understanding their capabilities and disabilities. You will develop and apply personalized learning approaches and programs to support their growth, progress, and success. The role involves creating a classroom environment that cultivates learning and engages students' interests, utilizing direct instruction techniques, and assessing student accomplishments regularly. Teachers are expected to recognize and evaluate student learning disabilities, seek assistance from district specialists when needed, and maintain accurate records. The position also involves exploring individual needs, providing side-by-side support to discover how each student learns best, and developing personalized solutions. Teachers will master and implement the school's proven curriculum and philosophy of education, guide students toward curriculum goals, evaluate learning capabilities, and celebrate accomplishments. They are also expected to encourage students to uphold school values, model mature behavior, and contribute to a positive school spirit by engaging with students, parents, and fellow educators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A current special education certification with proper endorsement(s) according to state and federal standards.
  • Valid SEI Endorsement/Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment is required in AZ only.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history background check.
  • Ability to perform duties typically in school and/or office settings throughout the division.
  • Ability to perform frequent walking, standing, stooping.
  • Ability to lift up to approximately 25 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Two plus years SPED Teaching experience and proven proficiency and experience in the subject of focus and specialty area of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom environment that cultivates learning, engages the interests of the students and allows them to perform at their very best.
  • Utilize direct instruction techniques to guide our students through a variety of activities designed to promote the social, physical and intellectual growth that is needed for primary school success!
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media; consistent with the physical limitations of the provided location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals involved.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Recognize and evaluate the learning and other disabilities of students on a regular basis; seeks the assistance or referral of district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Explore individual needs and give side-by-side support to discover how each student best learns and develop personalized solutions to each student’s learning style and abilities.
  • Master our proven curriculum as you implement our philosophy of education and guide the learning process and students toward the achievement of the curriculum goals.
  • Evaluate each student’s learning capabilities and celebrate student accomplishments.
  • Encourage students to uphold our values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on the school campus, and throughout their lives.
