This position is for a Certified Special Education Teacher at Devereux's approved private school in West Chester, PA, specifically at the School for Integrated Learning. It is a 52-week, year-round teaching position. The role involves working with children with disabilities in a functional classroom setting, as part of a multi-disciplinary team that uses a strengths-based approach, emphasizing applied behavior analysis and positive behavior supports. The School for Integrated Learning focuses on building upon each student's unique strengths, offering various opportunities such as Special Olympics, talent shows and school dances, student government, peer mentoring, service learning, community gardening, and employment education, both in the classroom and in the community. The goal of the school is to create individualized educational opportunities that enable each student to live as a positive, healthy, and socially-connected individual in their community. The School for Integrated Learning is licensed to serve students in grades K-12 who have been identified with primary disabilities including behavioral and cognitive differences, autism, intellectual disabilities, and speech and language impairments. The core curriculum is aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards and the curricula of partner school districts. This innovative special education program works in tandem with families and school districts to ensure students can return to their local schools and communities with the tools they need to succeed. The curriculum aims to provide learning experiences that foster increased engagement and success through differentiated instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, and rigorous learning expectations. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), which is regularly reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team including parents/guardians. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a system that promotes and rewards positive behaviors and prevents negative behaviors to create safe, supportive living environments.
