Requirements

  • New York State Special Education Teacher Certification required.
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Candidates who do not meet the above requirements will not be considered

  • Master's Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individualized and small-group instruction to support students' academic and social-emotional needs.
  • Collaborates with relevant staff to identify, monitor, and support students who are considered "at-risk."
  • Partners with classroom teachers to design, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Utilizes developmentally appropriate and rigorous curricula and instructional materials aligned to grade-level benchmarks and state learning expectations.
  • Delivers instruction using a variety of strategies that engage students, present new concepts clearly, and encourage exploration, expression, and independent thinking.
  • Modifies instructional plans as needed to meet the unique learning needs of each student.
  • Administers, collects, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative assessment data to inform instruction and monitor progress.
  • Builds strong relationships with families through consistent communication about the progress of at-risk and IEP students, and provides guidance on how families can support learning at home.
  • Participates in school-wide assessment processes to help identify student needs and inform instruction.
  • Provides teachers with resources, strategies, and recommendations to support effective intervention and differentiation in the classroom.
  • Refers students for additional special services when appropriate and follows required procedures.
  • Participates in IEP meetings to develop, review, and revise student plans and recommend appropriate supports.
  • Maintains organized records of student progress and ensures reporting is accurate and up to date.
  • Demonstrates understanding of federal and state Special Education laws and advocates for students' rights and needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
