About The Position

Summit Academy, the in-district public day school of the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District has an opening for a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certified Special Education teacher. The teacher will be primarily responsible for teaching middle school students the academic curriculum however the schedule may at times include high school as well. Applicants must have their Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Special Education license for the grades 7-12. Summit Academy is a separate day school for students with IEPs. The school provides a small, therapeutic, and highly supervised learning environment to enable students to make effective progress towards their goals. Students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs are educated in a learning community that supports their needs in order to access the curriculum. Counseling services are integrated into the school experience on a routine basis. Class sizes are small and a great deal of individual attention and support is provided to students. Teachers design, differentiate, and scaffold instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of the students. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to: effective classroom management skills and positive behavior management techniques; preparing, adapting, and delivering differentiated lessons (instruction, assignments, and assessment); experience in small group instruction; preparing and adapting teaching materials; checking and assessing student work and providing meaningful feedback; participation in IEP meetings; liaison and regular communication with families, professionals and outside agencies; providing written input for IEPs and progress reports; collaboration and coordination with paraeducators; collaboration and consultation with related service providers; collaboration and consultation with mental health team providers; use of assistive technology to promote student achievement.
