About The Position

The vision of the Arlington Public Schools is to be an equitable educational community where all learners feel a sense of belonging, experience growth and joy, and are empowered to shape their own futures and contribute to a better world. POSITION GOAL: To provide special education instruction and support for students in a substantially separate therapeutic classroom according to the Arlington Public School curriculum and Massachusetts standards. This is a long term substitute position from January - February 2026.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Teacher in either Moderate or Severe Disabilities
  • Experience working with students at the Middle School Level

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction to students, both within the regular education classroom and outside the regular education classroom. This includes planning and teaching along with the regular classroom teacher in an inclusive regular education setting.
  • Plan and modify regular curriculum.
  • Consult with regular education staff.
  • Monitor student progress in regular education program.
  • Develop IEP, determine goals and objectives.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Organize and chair team meetings and other meetings.
  • Administer testing for evaluations and end of term/end of year reporting.
  • Maintain contact with parents.
  • Attend building learning team meetings.
  • Direct the work of teaching assistants.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.
