About The Position

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher Leave Replacement - Certified Assignment Dates: March 2026-June 2026 Potentional to work ESY (July-August 2026) JOB DESCRIPTION - TEACHER The position shall require an appropriate teacher's certificate issued by the State board of Examiners under the rules and regulations prescribed by the State Board of Education. Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. This position requires the medical and physical capacity to perform the major responsibilities. APPOINTMENT AND TENURE Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. Tenure shall be granted in accordance with state mandates. CONTRACT AND SALARY The salary for this position shall be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the contract between the Board of Education and the Mercer County Special Services Education and Therapeutic Association. REPORTS TO The teacher shall report to the building principal or other administrators as designated by the superintendent. His/her performance shall be evaluated in a manner consistent with policies and procedures of the board of Education, as described in policy 4115.1. GENERAL FUNCTIONS The teacher is the educational specialist who transmits the mandates, intentions and efforts of state officials, the Board of Education and the administrative and supportive staff of the school district for the provision of a thorough and efficient education for pupils into practical reality. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES In order to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities, the teacher shall: Instructional Organization 1. Recognize and understand the nature of the pupils assigned, and the nature of learning as related to the pupil. 2. Plan and implement learning experiences compatible with the objectives and curriculum of the school district and with the individualized educational plan of the pupil. Teaching Presentation 1. Promote the educational growth of pupils, commensurate with pupil ability, as described in individualized educational plans. 2. Examine, select and use materials and techniques appropriate to pupil needs, pupil ability, educational objectives and the curriculum, consistent with individualized educational plans. 3. Plan and implement learning experiences compatible with the curriculum of the school district and the individualized educational plan of the pupil. 4. Direct the activities of classroom assistants. 3. Evaluation 1. Provide frequent evaluations to determine pupils' mastery of objectives. 2. Maintain records of student progress. Behavior Management 1. Promote the worth and dignity of pupils and strive for their educational success. 2. Establish positive pupil-teacher relationships. 3. Share responsibility for maintaining appropriate pupil behavior. 4. Establish a social and emotional climate conductive to learning. 5. Establish and maintain standards of behavior necessary for learning and the well­ being of the pupil and others, in accordance with school law, state regulations and the policies of the Board of Education. Staff and Parent Interaction 1. Maintain appropriate liaison and communication with parents. 2. Maintain cooperative relationships with other members of the instructional, support and administrative staffs. 3. Work effectively with other staff members in planning and evaluating the educational program. Professionalism 1. Exhibit respect and support for and adherence to goals, objectives, policies and procedures approved by the Board of Education. 2. Share in the upholding and enforcing of school rules, administrative regulations and the policies of the Board of Education. 3. Participate in staff development programs and staff meetings commensurate with the policies of the Board of Education and contractual obligations. 4. Perform additional duties to those specified at the request of the superintendent or his/her designee.
