Special Education Teacher: EBD/ABS
About The Position
Mahtomedi Public Schools is looking for a highly motivated special education teacher to join our team at Mahtomedi Middle School, grades 6-8. Candidates with a passion and expertise in behavioral and academic interventions are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time and part of the teacher bargaining unit. Salary and benefits are part of the Master Agreement. Minimum Requirements: Must have a valid MN teaching license: EBD or ABS license, or be able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching Strong knowledge of special education state laws and compliance to ensure IEPs are completed timely Ability to establish and maintain standards of student behavior Ability to comprehend complex data to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports Collaborative team member of a Professional Learning Community, striving to implement best practices for instruction and assessment Proven leadership skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, students and parents Seeks opportunities to improve their practice through coaching feedback and ongoing reflection Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate thoughts and ideas with accuracy and clarity, ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, student goals and abilities and overall experience in their classroom Calm demeanor and a strong passion for working with kids

Responsibilities
- Identify the needs of students through formal and informal assessments
- Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
- Communicate with students, parents and staff on regular basis on student progress and work in collaboration for positive student outcomes
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Use of data for progress monitoring and tracking.
- Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
- Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
- Other job-related duties as assigned
