About The Position

This position supports a self-contained special education classroom serving a diverse group of students. Our students have a range of communication and learning styles, from those who are non-verbal and utilize assistive technology, to those who are verbal but require support with social skills, behavioral regulation, and academic tasks. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, flexible, and proactive individual who is committed to fostering an inclusive and successful learning experience for every student.

Requirements

Associates Degree or 48 College Hours or Passing Score on the ParaPro PRAXIS Test
Must be willing to work with staff, students, and parents
Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift children and/or crouch
Ability to perform other duties as assigned as part of the job assignment and job requirements
Willing to receive and implement additional training as needed

Responsibilities

Provide direct instructional support to individual students and small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
Support students with various communication needs, including using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices (e.g., communication tablets, picture exchange systems) and visual schedules.
Assist students with daily living skills, personal care, and mobility as needed.
Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
Assist in collecting and graphing student data related to academic and behavioral goals.
Prepare instructional materials, visual aids, and adaptive equipment.
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and non-instructional times (e.g., lunch, recess).
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with the classroom teacher, other paraprofessionals, therapists (Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist), and school administration.
Participate in professional development and team meetings as required.
