About The Position

Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time (10-month position) Special Education High School Teacher for a small, departmental classroom. Teachers are valued members of special education teams, which include teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists. These teams implement the evidence-based Teaching Family Model to support social and academic learning and healthy decision-making among students facing behavioral challenges and learning issues. Instructional staff at Garfield Park Academy are thoroughly trained and mentored in the Teaching Family Model.

Requirements

  • New Jersey Teacher Certification in English, Math, Science, and/or History
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Teaching Certification

Nice To Haves

  • New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification
  • One year of teaching experience
  • At least one year of Special Education teaching
  • Special Education Certification

Responsibilities

  • Providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student's IEP and individual goals and objectives
  • Implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations
  • Collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively
  • Administering periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance
  • Participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings
  • Clearly and consistently communicating and collaborating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians
