To provide services which will meet the needs of children assigned to the Special Education Self-Contained Program

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned,
  • Knowledge of subject(s) assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the ARD committee.
  • Use a course of study based on Mission CISD goals and the pupil's IEP; keep lesson plan books up-to-date; use instructional materials to aid in planning, directing and evaluating the instructional program; and accept and work within the class schedule that is set by the campus principal.
  • Administer the classroom its program, maintaining order and discipline among the pupils; and be responsible for pupil accounting, keeping records accurate and complete and making such reports as may be required.
  • Abide by the purchasing policies developed by the administration and be held personally responsible for any item not purchased properly.
  • Provide for adequate care and protection of school property and the overall appearance of the classroom, shop or lab, turning off lights, fans, air conditioners and heaters when not in the room; and be responsible for textbooks issued to them by the principal.
  • Observe children in the classroom for signs or symptoms of illness or other health difficulties, notifying the principal or school nurse if a child shows signs or complains of feeling sick.
  • Maintain a cordial and workable relationship with colleagues in the school system; and participate in the activities of the staff.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to board polices, administrative regulations, student code of conduct, and IEP.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
