About The Position

Provide students with disabilities at the high school level with specialized instruction, intervention, and case management support to ensure access to the general education curriculum and progress toward graduation. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while delivering targeted instruction in core academic areas. Promote student independence, self-advocacy, and postsecondary readiness in a structured and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsements
  • Knowledge of high school curriculum and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Strong understanding of the ARD Committee process and IEP development/implementation
  • Ability to provide differentiated instruction in core content areas
  • Knowledge of transition planning and postsecondary readiness requirements
  • Skills in behavior management, progress monitoring, and data analysis
  • Strong organizational, communication, and case management skills
  • Student teaching, internship, or experience working with secondary students, preferably in special education

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, small-group or individualized instruction in a resource setting to support student success in core academic subjects
  • Adapt and modify curriculum, assignments, and assessments to meet individual student needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented
  • Use research-based instructional strategies and technology to support student learning
  • Support inclusion and co-teaching opportunities when appropriate
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and instructional planning
  • Serve as case manager for assigned students receiving special education services
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, including measurable goals and progress reporting
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for compliance purposes
  • Collaborate with related service providers, counselors, and administrators
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and services
  • Assess student progress using formal and informal measures
  • Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals
  • Use data to guide instructional decisions and interventions
  • Support development of study skills, organization, self-advocacy, and independence
  • Assist students in planning for graduation and postsecondary goals (college, career, or workforce)
  • Create a structured, organized, and supportive learning environment
  • Establish clear expectations and consistent routines
  • Manage student behavior using positive behavior supports and interventions
  • Supervise and direct paraprofessionals or aides
  • Ensure a safe and productive classroom environment
  • Maintain open and effective communication with families, staff, and administration
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support student success across settings
  • Participate in staff development and professional learning opportunities
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all special education laws and district policies
  • Direct and oversee instructional aides
