About The Position

Provide students with disabilities in elementary grades with targeted, data-driven instruction in mathematics to support academic success. Deliver specialized instruction aligned to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), while developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs). Foster a structured, supportive learning environment that builds foundational math skills, problem-solving abilities, and student confidence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsements
  • Knowledge of elementary math curriculum and TEKS alignment
  • Understanding of the ARD Committee process and IEP development/implementation
  • Ability to design and deliver differentiated math instruction for diverse learners
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies for students with math learning difficulties
  • Skills in behavior management and progress monitoring
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Student teaching, internship, or experience working with elementary students, preferably in special education

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and specialists to develop and implement IEPs through the ARD process
  • Provide direct, small-group or individualized math instruction in a resource setting
  • Adapt and modify math curriculum to meet individual student needs and learning styles
  • Use research-based instructional strategies, including manipulatives, visual models, and technology to support math understanding
  • Support inclusion by collaborating with general education teachers and providing accommodations/modifications in the classroom
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and instructional planning
  • Assess student progress using formal and informal measures, including curriculum-based assessments
  • Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals, specifically in mathematics
  • Use data to adjust instruction and interventions
  • Support development of problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and academic independence
  • Create a structured, supportive learning environment conducive to small-group instruction
  • Establish clear expectations and consistent routines
  • Manage student behavior using positive behavior supports and interventions
  • Supervise and direct paraprofessionals or aides
  • Ensure a safe and organized classroom environment
  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with families regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with campus staff to support student success across settings
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with all special education requirements
  • Direct and oversee instructional aides and classroom support staff
