About The Position

Woburn Public Schools Special Education Reading Tutor The Special Education Reading Tutor reports directly to the Director of Student Services, Student Services Coordinators, Principal of the School, and is expected to work closely with all school personnel. The Special Education Reading Tutor will provide highly individualized reading tutorials to special education students in both small group and 1:1 settings in consultation with a special education teacher. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
  • Experience working in a diverse educational setting, including the ability to work successfully with students, colleagues, and families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Competence with technology tools and platforms, including Google applications

Nice To Haves

  • Training and/or knowledge of various reading programs preferred (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, Lindamood Bell)
  • Knowledge of research-based best practices and interventions in literacy

Responsibilities

  • Direct, explicit and data-driven instruction for special education students within the area of literacy
  • Evaluate student progress through a variety of informal assessments, to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly, under the direction of a Special Education Teacher
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities
  • Familiarity with reading IEPs
  • Plan and implement highly individualized reading tutorials, under the direction of a Special Education Teacher
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law and district policies
  • Abide by state statutes, school committee policies, regulations, and WPS Employee Handbook
  • Attend all required meetings and perform duties as assigned by Student Service’s Director and Building Administrator(s)
  • All other duties as required by the Principal or WPS Administration
