About The Position

The Special Education Paraeducator supports students with diverse learning needs by providing academic, behavioral, and personal assistance under the direction of certified staff. This position plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive, safe, and positive learning environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (per State of CT requirements).
Fingerprinting and background check as required by the State of Connecticut.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
Ability to lift 25+ pounds and meet the physical demands listed above.
Basic computer skills (email, data entry, and use of learning software).
Willingness to participate in required professional training.

Nice To Haves

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
Experience working with students with special needs or challenging behaviors.
Knowledge of child development and positive behavior support strategies.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive rapport with children and to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Assist with implementing individualized education or behavior plans.
Work closely with students, teachers, the school nurse, and staff.
Maintain a safe and caring environment.
Maintain confidentiality, keep records and data current, and prepare and supply reports as needed.
Consult with and assist special ed. teacher in working with students, as needed.
Work with individual or small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
Supervise students in community-centered or optimal learning environments.
Before commencing employment, professional training will be provided as required.
