Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a student-focused, dedicated Special Education Paraeducator to assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting
• Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
• Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs/toilet training
• Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
• Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
• Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
• Uses special skills (i.e. sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
• Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty
