About The Position

Assist the Special Education instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students. Provide educational services to students in the special education program. Observe, record and report student progress and behavior. Assist students in games, activities, instruction, and use of playground equipment. Use appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positive climate for learning. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluation feedback. Assist in providing for the physical needs of students. Escort and transport students to and from varies activities and locations. Provide daily feeding and meal time supervision and assistance. Assist with toilet and hygiene care as needed. Adhere to required program guidelines and students individual education plan (IEP) or behavior plan. This position may require one-on-one or resource room support. Other related duties as assigned. Building locations subject to change based on student support needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum AA degree or equivalent or passed PRAXIS test required
  • Ability to make good decisions
  • Patient, flexible, self-motivated, good communication, teamwork, academic skills and positive social skills and a sense of humor
  • Ability to relate well to students, parents and staff
  • May require lifting, prolonged sitting or standing
  • Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
